R61i Windows 2000 audio troubles

Hi all, I just installed Windows 2000 on my R61i and got video and ethernet drivers working but couldn't get the audio to work. I installed Service pack 4, DirectX 9.0c and Microsoft QFE #888111 QuickFix as recommended by this guide: viewtopic.php?t=62013 and I still can't get the audio working. Any help is welcome.

This audio issue is... a little vague.

Does the yellow speaker icon show up, in the right side of the taskbar? Did the driver install properly, or did it simply refuse to install under Windows 2000? More importantly, does your R61i contain a Conexant CX20549 audio codec or an Analog Devices SoundMAX AD1984HD audio codec?

The driver refused to install. I have Soundmax Audio. (Edit: I have Conexant Audio. Just Checked)

On (older) machines with older software it is advisable to install the chipset-drivers.
Maybe you forgot those?
