IBM Thinkpad R50e price?

R, A, G and Z series specific matters only. NOT for AMD-Ryzen.

IBM Thinkpad R50e price?

#1 Post by sandthewitch » Fri Mar 27, 2020 5:22 pm

I recently acquired an IBM thinkpad laptop running Windows XP. Tried to look at prices for that online but found nothing. Does IBM considered vintage? What is the recommended price range if I want to sell it?

The R50e is the budget model (denoted by the "e" suffix) of the budget line (R series), so its selling price would be rather low. 50 USD is already too high IMO.

If you wanna sell such a machine at any reasonable price, you probably wanna upgrade it to a regular R50 by swapping out some parts. And if you don't have an iGPU board and are able to get an IPS screen to work it sells for far more.
I sold my 15" T43 for about 40% more by just having an UXGA IPS screen that I swapped out of my personal T43p because it got too worn.

T43p 2.26 2gb fp W10 (Sharp)

Those can be really cheap.
I bought three for 10 euros each, fully working, with batteries still good for 30% capacity, thinkpad travel cases, spare parts and all....
Do not expect high prices for those.
Have a look at greek online sites selling those, since Greece and Turkey are on the same market segment, you will see that both prices and types of machines available are more or less the same.
REfurbished you can find those for 20 to 50 euros depending on the battery condition, but beware of the battery price since it varies between 20 to 70 euros. Worth it for an XP underpowered machine today? You decide.
