R60e Wifi upgrade

#1 Post by stillr » Sat Dec 12, 2020 2:39 am

So, the original stock wifi card is pretty unstable, at least in windows 7, it gets terrible reception, or disconnects, only seems to work well when close to the router. My R60e does not have bluetooth integrated.

I was thinking about upgrading the card, and I can already see at least 2 problems.
  • The laptop as only 1 antenna, or at least I only see one coaxial cable, and the original card only as one antenna connected.
  • The Bios has a whitelist of allowed wifi card.
Would a wifi card that requires 2 antennas work on this laptop?
How can I unlock the Bios?

You need a modded BIOS, unfortunately I don't have a link for one.

There should be two antennae cables/leads. One gray and one black. If you only have one no card will work well.

Good luck.

hi,
Thank you :)

there are 2 antennas. I thought there was only one, but I just checked.

Are there any better card that are already whitelisted in stock BIOS?

Try locating a Lenovo abgn card FRU 42T0825. That one *should* work with the factory BIOS.

Good luck.
