R61 beep codes.

#1 Post by TwigletZone » Wed Feb 24, 2021 6:01 pm

Hi all, I'm hoping some one can help me with R61 beep codes. Basically I have received a parts only R61 that I needed the screen from, and out of curiosity I wanted to see what the motherboard spec was, (what GPU is on it). But when powering up with a known working HDD and known working RAM I get 4 loud beeps and a blank screen. The green LED array does its normal sequence and stops with Power/Batt/Mains on and no further activity. Any one know what that means?

I did try a search and the fwe mentions I found pointed at the lenovo site, but all references to R61's are gone now. :(

Cheers.

R61 8918 - 15.4" NVidia NVS 140M, T8300 CPU, 6GB Ram, 120GB SSD, Win7, M's BIOS
R61 8935 - 15.4" Intel 965 Graphics, T8300 CPU, 4Gb Ram, 120GB SSD, Win7, M's BIOS

And maybe more R61's to follow....

Hi,

I had treid with know working RAM, 2x 1GB DIMMs. but after your suggestion I changed to another single know good DIMM, also 1GB, and presto! It boots fine! Tried moving that DIMM to the other slot, (lower one), and I get the four loud beeps and no post! So it appears that this system has a bad DIMM slot.

So thank you for prompting me to try again, I can work with this system with a 2GB DIMM, (but not a 4GB as they're just stupid money at the moment!). So another old R61 soldiers on, thats three going now!
