T23 "Thinpad button" not working

#1 Post by bossman74 » Thu Nov 03, 2005 11:40 pm

I've just bought a T23 on ebay (model 2647-LU3) and I upgraded the OS from Windows 2000 to XP. After dowloading all the drivers and utilities, from IBM, I can't get the "thinkpad button" to work, it used to work fine in W2K.

Anybody got an idea what's is wrong :?:

You probably damaged the boot sector when you installed XP. You can try the following solution. Hopefully it will work for you. I have not tried this myself.

Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette

In order to get the button to work certain drivers/utilities have to be installed in a specific order. See this link:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-41811

for the process. Some other utilities also have prereqisites.

The only utility that has to be running for the Thinkpad button to work is the Hot Key Utility so before you reinstall, check that.

Since the Access IBM button serves (2) very different functions, depending upon your problem, you should use dsvochak's approach or one simular to mine (A reinstall of Rescue and Recovery may accomplish the same thing as the Recovery Repair diskette I mentioned previously).

If you are trying to bring up the Access IBM page from within Windows, use dsvochak's approach. If you are trying to access the Repair and Recovery workspace on boot up, try one of my solutions. (I don't think dsvochak's approach would affect accessing the Repair and Recovery workspace on boot up, but I could be wrong).

Sort of. Go to the following page. http://www.ibm.com/fr/

In the Search Box at the top of the page, type the equivalent of "+Software +and +Device +Drivers - +ThinkPad +T22, +T23" without quotes, in the French language, and hit the Enter key. Sorry, I don't speak or write French.

Once you find the device driver page, click on the T22 link under Download individual drivers. It should be on one of the following pages.
