Question about R50P GPU temperatures.

#1 Post by Axel » Wed Jan 11, 2006 2:38 am

Hi folks.

After a long time, i ask myself, if there is any solution now, to cool down the GPU of my R50P.

I remember, that there was a kind of T40? fan which maybe could be implemented, because it had a (better?) heatpipe.

Or is there any software-trick to cool it down?

The background is, that "fancontrol.exe" shows me the tempreatures well and i can see, that the reason for the fan-noise it clearly the GPU, not the CPU.

So the aim of the game will be to cool down the GPU in any way.
Is there any?

Regards,
Axel

Hi, Axel.
I've got R50p, too. When I downloaded and installed this program: http://www.pbus-167.com/chc.htm I observed the tempearure is around 55-60 C. I removed keyboard and with air duster blew out a lot of dirt and contaminations. So after this procedure the temperatures decreased and now is 40-45C.
About T40 fan, I think that the noise reduction is the point, not increased heat efficiency.
Good luck!

Hi Did.
Thanks for reply.
Thats an idea too. I will take a look in.
You are talking about a difference of nearly 15C. Thats really much.
Are you really talking about the GPU or maybe the CPU?

All temperture are CPU temp. I starterd to look for the heatproblem when my R50p shuts down several times in gaming mode. So, as You know there are 2 termo sensor that shut down the system to prevent damage. In my case "cleaning" resolve the shut down problem. Of course our fan is quite noisy but I think it's not a big problem. By the way I uprated my WiFi card to a/b/g IBM type II-works fine.

:D R50p's WiFi grows to 54Mb/s (g standart) and of course this card allows operating with "a" standart devices. FRU number (in EU) is 39T0083.

I took a look in my control panel:
"11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter"
This is the WIFI i already have in my R50p.
Should be the same, or?
Nevertheless my already supports the "g" standard, thats why is was surprised. ;)

The original R50p is fited wit Intel b WiFi card. Obviously your one had been upgaded. I spent a lot of time to find what is the proper wifi card for update, because there are some choises. For example Intel a/b/g/ wifi will not work on our TP without BIOS cracking. However. Take care.
