Cannot boot from any device...
I sent a working Z61t laptop in for the latch to be repaired and they couldn't get the part so the laptop was sent back to me but now I am getting errors and it says "cannot boot from any device". I went in to the BIOS setup utility and chose "F9" setup defaults whin in startup. Does anyone have the same laptop and give me the exact boot order.
Here is what it is saying:
Current boot order and device status
1: USB FDD: -> Device not found
2. ATAPI CD0: Model HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4083N-M ->No valid operating system
3: ATA HDD0: -> Device not found
4: PCI LAN: Model MBA v.8.3.9 Slot 0200 ->->No valid operating system
5: USB HDD: -> Device not found
6: ATA HDD1: -> Device not found
Excluded from boot order:
ATA HDD2
ATAPI CD1
What happened? The computer was working great before I shipped it - HELP!!! :(

Your problem is that your hard drive is not seen. Is it installed in the slot? If yes, reseat it.

Re: Cannot boot from any device...
I have the same issue right now..
I just replaced my old hard drive with the new one..
I got the same message but my hard drive detected...
It's just saying NO VALID OPERATING SYSTEM.
It looks like I have to reinstall the new hard drive?
Anyone know how to fix?

Re: Cannot boot from any device...
Yeah, you need to partition and format the hard disk. Then install an OS.
If you use a Windows or Linux CD, it will offer you to do that for you.

Re: Cannot boot from any device...
Like I said, you will need a Windows or Linux CD.
Boot from that and it will partition/format.
If you want the original software back that came with your TP, get a set of recovery CDs and read this: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=52133

Re: Cannot boot from any device...
The thing is I can't get it reboot! So I can't partition it either.
I tried to reboot from DVD ROM using the XP cd and it comes up with such message:
CANNOT BOOT FROM ANY DEVICE
1. ATAPI CD0: DVD RW...... -> No valid OS
2. ATA HDD0: MODEL ST......-> No valid OS
3. USB HDD -> Device not found
4. ATA HDD1 -> Device not found.
the list goes on...
So I'm assuming that my DVD ROM or HD has not been detected?
I also tried to run HDD diagnostic program..
My main HDD seems to run the diagnostic but no result after an hour (still 0%) and my Ultrabay HDD is not found!
Help would be much appreciated!

Re: Cannot boot from any device...
You got a bad CD/DVD drive to start with.
Borrow one from a similar TP.
Then run PC Doctor from that drive.

Re: Cannot boot from any device...
well actually the DVD ROM should run with no problems (I hear the sound of a CD spinning) and the green light indicator seems to work. But I don't know why it's not detected in the BIOS.
I will try to use an external DVD ROM then load XP into my TP, would that work?
