Hi there, well the subject says it all. I have had my laptop for a while now, bought it second hand so no warranty, but lately the fingerprint reader gets dangerously hot. So it can be inconveniant while typing or resting my hands if I accidently rest on it.
Plus I am wondering if it may not be a more serious matter than just a bit of heat that may affect the rest of my machine later on. I don't actually use the reader and have tried to disable its use in the device manager but nada.
So if anyone has an idea of what might be causing this and of a way to stop it, please let me know.
Mimufely yours.

Re: Fingerprint reader overheating on R61
Just for the heck of it, check the hard drive. I know on the T60 the HD is located directly under the FP reader. This may be the cause of the heat...... At the very least, have a look into this.
On the other hand, if the heat is actually coming from the FP reader, you may want to remove the palm rest and unplug the cable from the FP reader to the mainboard......
Best of luck, Steve

So, thanks very much for your help.
I did took my time but ended up removing the cable leading to the pad and now it doesn't heat anymore.
So thanks heaps once again,
Mimuf
