Re: Windows 7 on my X31 & my ATI drivers story
Thanks for sharing this! Since I don´t have my X31 anymore I haven´t bother much with this topic, but it may come handy for a T42 I got a while ago. Normally I use Linux distros with my TPs, but in case I can grab a cheap Win7 license I will give it a try

I used to use the DNA ATi driver set on my X31, Sleep works, OpenGL works

Re: Windows 7 on my X31 & my ATI drivers story
Well, it seems I may have another update.
After a bit more investigation, turns out the XP Power Manager was not actually performing as expected in Win7. Namely, the power plans had no effect, and screen blanking for Fn+F3 did not work. Probably the XP software does not sync well with Win7's built-in power management settings.
I finally got everything to work by combining the following:
* XP Legacy Omega Drivers 3.8.421 - available from Omega Drivers Archive. The drivers needed to be unpacked, then installed manually through the Device Manager. I had to uncheck the "Compatible hardware" checkbox and force installation despite the drivers being unsigned, but it worked.
* Vista/Win7 Power Manager 3.62 from Lenovo
After reboot everything works. Sleep is available, screen blanking works, Power Manager loads without BSOD and the power plans work too. The Device Manager shows the correct adapter for the X32 - ATI Mobility Radeon (Omega 3.8.421). Experience Index is 1.0 due to the low-end GPU, but at least it works.
There was one complaint about incompatibilities between Win7 and the ATiPTA application, so I just disabled its startup. It seems to have no effect on the power settings.
Hopefully these instructions will work for anyone wanting to run Win7 on their X31/32.
