failed upgrade to SP1 [Solved]

#1 Post by gehageh » Wed Mar 05, 2014 6:43 am

During the last 3 days i have installed a new SSD in my T61. I installed recovery disks from T400 with Win7 OS. All were O.K. up to the moment that I tried to install SP1. I downloaded the relevant file for Win 7 64 bit and I run the update. The first stage was succesful up to the point of configuring the SP1. Then the T61 was working for 5 hours and when the computer restarted it showed the message "failure configuring serveice Pack, Reverting changes". Then win7 loaded normally and when I visited the update section I saw thw message "ERROR _TIMEOUT (0x800705b4).
Any idea what can I do?

What is the brand and model of the SSD ?

I recently also had difficulty installing Win 7 SP1 on a Sony X Series laptop. I gave up after 3 or 4 tries. The error message that I got was different though. The strange thing is that I had installed SP1 on the exact same SSD in this same laptop over a year ago. Even though I no longer have this laptop, I am curious whether there is a solution for this type of problem. My "solution" wasn't very elegant: I swapped out that SSD for a mechanical HDD, and also the Win 7 COA for a Vista COA, installed Vista on it, and sold the laptop!

problem solved by visiting Microsoft help. The reason was the security essentials! I de activated it and the installation and configuration of SP1 was done in a few minutes.

Good. I would've preferred to have SLIPSTREAMED the SP1 into Win 7. But good to know there was another way.
