How to get VPN working in browser

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Sat Jun 01, 2019 10:21 am

I installed the free ProtonVPN under W7/64-bit but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to get my browser (Pale Moon or Firefox) working under/with this VPN.
Even their own website doesn't tell you.
I need VPN to access some US websites that don't allow European IP addresses.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

What about hide.me online free or UltraSurf extension?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Nah. Most sites that are serious about IP restrictions will sniff that out...

Windscribe VPN has pretty good word of mouth.
Heard the "free" version is still good enough to use!

I'm NOT looking to go anonymous, I just need VPN to 'relocate' me to a US IP-address, so I can access my US bank and creditcard accounts.
Thus far I tried ProtonVPN, which does not connect for some reason.
Next I tried ZenMate, which does connect me to a US-server, but after that I still don't know how to get VPN working.
Nobody on the web seems willing to tell you how to go online, using their VPN.
Very frustrating...

Windscribe as an add-on for Firefox works, but my CapitalOne creditcard account still won't let me in, they insist on sending a code to my cell/mobile.
My 'old' US cell/mobile number doesn't work in Europe, so I got a new Irish cell/mobile number.
But picky CapitalOne does not accept any non-US number, so I'm back to square one!
I can make free collect-calls to them, and then they do what I ask them, but it's still a pain in the butt.

Since US banks and credit card companies prove very abroad-unfriendly, I decided to take drastic measures.
I have closed down all my US credit cards, and only left one US bank account active.
I don't give a hoot about any "credit score", so who cares?
Problem solved.

Since Sky has exclusive F1 rights (and I don't have Sky) I decided to make a different use of VPN.
I'm using Windscribe VPN to 'relocate' to Switzerland and via them watch Swiss television for the F1 races.
Having lived in Switzerland for 25 years, I have no problems with Schwyzertüütsch.

Free vpns are good enough to change your location. I have been using both paid and free vpn services. I know that free vpn services are not secure options but many people are only interested in changing their locations and they just do not care anything else. So you need paid when you do more work and need to take care of your privacy and want extra features and more countries. Free vpn services like windscribe, hide.me are enough to fullfill the basic requirements.

In the VPN browser, you can work both incognito mode and with the extension installed, I personally have an extension from Adguard and I am completely happy with it, turn it on and off at any time when I need it, and they even have locks for adult sites and advertising, here you can find out all about VPN https://adguard.com/en/what-is-vpn/how- ... -work.html.

Some versions of best free vpn for chrome services usually have two connection methods - in the form of a browser extension or an OS program

A LOT of US banks are forcing 2 factor authentication. Even from US locations. I can't get into my USAA without 2 factor and I've been an owning member there for 36 years.

Before I started using proxy servers, I always used VPN. And I can say this if you find and buy a high-quality VPN and just turn it on, you can already use the browser and not worry about your anonymity. But trust me, it's best to use a proxy server. For personal use or for work, it doesn't matter. You should try to use proxy servers, and preferably paid ones because free ones often lag and give out various bugs. And I can say this, setting up paid proxy servers is much easier, especially if you configure the config according to the guide.

Yes even Paypal have got into 2 factor now and message my phone every now and then. I live in France for part of the year and my French bank does the same so I have a dual sim phone with the French and UK sims installed so that I can get connected wherever I am.
I have never found that using a VPN works very well between countries, it spoofs my location well but the speeds are never constant enough to avoid a lot of buffering while streaming TV to a Thinkpad. I have tried several suppliers, the paid ones like Nordvpn, ExpressVPN are better than the free ones in my location.
Where to begin......

1 X T60

1 X T601 15"
1 X T520
2 X T530
