Is this legit IBM, or am i getting spammed?

#1 Post by Logi7 » Mon Jun 27, 2005 3:32 am

So im getting warranty offers in my main email account (that is super top secret that i have many other accounts that simpily foreward other mail to this main account) and i decide i want to see the images, so i instruct gmail to show them- and i even clikc "buy now"

when all of a sudden i notice that the server is something like mailcvs.com/ibm the 1st though in my mind was... "oooooo FUKC i just confirmed that this address is active, NOOOOOOO"

at the bottom of the emila there is a privacy statement link, but takes you to 423423454.4234234.mailcvs.com or something of the sort (no doubt a unique link that would inform the company that sombody clicked the link and somebody is sctivly checking the account, i then noticed that all the images that i just forced gmail to display were from the same server :( )

so just wondering if my attempts at actually keeping a nice and clean email address have been all in vain and that my love for IBM has gotten the better of me.

Whats really got me is that within the email is the Correct Serial number of my T42, my full name - and when i clikced on the buy now link, even my address was displayed.(only partially as the site says "* Your address on file has been partially hidden to protect your privacy.")

I though it was ok for a while, when i see a link to a CSR, just for my to contact with an extension number and everything, with an emial at "ibm4pcs.com" but i checked the domain out (the root page of the server is blank)

Hmmm, doesn't sound very IBMish, infact, not even Lenovoish (As they BOUGHT IBM's PC division)
I think its a fake.

They're "legitimate" to the extent that they handle warranty upgrades on behalf of IBM/Lenovo.

They're "spammers" to the extent that they're paid a percentage of all sales they conclude.

Choose your definition.
