ebay asking for ID now

On ebay I got this now. To keep our marketplace safe, we need to verify your identity. When you click on it, they want your name, address, SSN and an upload of front and back of your Drivers License.
I live in the US. and heard they are hitting this hard in the UK and probably the EU as well. This was mostly for games like on steam and heard it is spreading across the internet.

It is on the seller dashboard but probably will move toward entire website.

I just went to check my listing and the red banner at the top is gone now as of today.

NEVER been asked this by USA eBay and I deal with them daily. I'd check for scam/spam.

It was gone after a few hours when I posted this. The red banner at the top on selling page is gone. it was probably ebay updating their site and was probably set for all countries.
