#1 Post by ian » Sun Jun 27, 2004 9:52 am

Ok, so it's a useless post, but I can't help myself when I see someone has 'bidded' on eBay

You can't - it's invariable - I bid, I have bid, I will bid...

A bit like 'going to go' also impossible...(you're going, or you've gone...)

EOR - merci et à la prochaine

Irregardless.

I could have cared less.

Hearing this word or phrase tumble off someone's lips has the effect of diminishing them in my view. Must be a relic from my Jesuit education.

Interestingly (to me) over here a Jesuit is a cake - does this mean you were educated in a bakery?

PS. Do you mind if I copy your way of writing your e-mail? Seems there are too many robots around...

Irregardless of other's opinions -- I could care less -- and am not a co-conspirator on this topic.

However, Ian, you have a point. Some of the posts are just incomprehensible due to careless use of the language .. or just plain stupidity.

Reminds me of the old exclamation .. "for years ago I couldn't spell enginur -- now I is one!"

You may substitute your "profession"

Sadly I make too many errors due to impatience etc. so I can't really criticise - but that won't stop me, it IS, after all, human nature to want to feel superior isn't it?! Some of the "offerings" have been priceless, but I really don't want to start something off here - the most important thing is that we "communicate" with each other, and this forum, like many others, is a wonderful opportunity for us to do just that. With that I think I'm going to go and have a cup of coffee...

True. But you should also consider that English is not everybody’s native language. There are many foreigners here, who speak English, but it might be our 3rd, 4th language -including myself-, so our English will never be as proficient as yours. Anyway, I think people should read their posts at least once before they post them.

G-Man

G-man

I try always to see the amusing side of the comments here, and I can assure you that, aside from the messages from a tiny minority of the people present on this forum, I couldn't really give a toss how the message is written - it's as I said previously, the COMMUNICATION that counts.
