Anyone color their Thinkpad

#1 Post by Guest » Wed Jun 30, 2004 12:42 pm

Has anyone changed the color of their thinkpad? I know many business men love/need to have the black. Just wanted to know if it has been done? Dark Blue anyone?

Most of the requests I've seen are from people who are upset about the black coating lifting off the metal substrate. I have a 770X with this problem big time.

The coating feels like a vinyl material, and you could use any paint that sticks to vinyl. If you are dealing with peeling coating, the substrate probably has some oil on it and almost nothing will stick properly.

If you change the color of your Thinkpad, most people will downrate its value. But it's your Thinkpad and you can do whatever you want.

Just my 2 cents

V. Lamburn (lilserenity) disassembled and repaint one of her ThinkPads in neon green, so it's been done. In fact, I'd say it's been over-the-top done ;)

Interesting. neon green. I was thinking blue. At the same time I have only seen 3 thinkpads and i did not pay that much attention to the black. I like to see the black though. Simple and clean. It is very professional and does not draw attention. Need to get my hands one though.

We need to start a gallery of some sort once people start customizing their Thinkpads heavily =D.

Yes that would be nice. But I don't think people will be customizing their thinkpads too much. Alot of professional people in here. Also based on the T series forum, it is not wise to mess with perfection or anything that gets pretty close to it.
