#1 Post by sonyc » Sun Jul 04, 2004 12:08 am

Anyone here has seen or tried the new Sony S series yet?
How does it compare to the T42?

I have a T40 and its rock... plan to get a new T42 but the new Sony S widescreen look tempting ;-)

I can't speak for that model but I have a friend who has owned two of the Sony laptops. Lost of bells and whistles but both broke. They just don't seem to have the build quality of a TP

Mine Broke

My Sony is mostly broken after owning it for 3 years. The plastic case is seperating, so you can see the inside of the case if you pull on it. It still works, but I wouldn't take it out side any more.

my experience

I used to have a Sony GRX560 (16.1" LCD UXGA) and until recent a TR1A...

Both of them were great notebooks...specially the TR1A...the finish is fine and the screen was great...But I heard the middle range models are not that well built...

But now I'm loving my T41p...

I think it is these little things that people forget about when they buy cheap notebooks. Yes maybe it might work after 2-3 years but if the screen and case is falling apart no one is going to take it outside or move it anywhere. Neither would I invite my friends to my dorm to check anything out on a laptop that falls apart.

I used to work in the IS dept at a small hospital where we had a number of Sony Vaios, and I hated them. Small things broke constantly, and Sony made it as difficult as possible to process legitimate warranty claims. They obviously didn't want to keep our business. I would never, ever, buy a Sony product after my experiences with them as an IS employee.

I saw the new Sony S150 and was considering that one now, too. The screen is so nice, it's 4lbs, and the keyboard felt good. However, I know Sony's support is crappy. Can anyone compare the screen of the Sony S150 (or xbrite in general) to the 15" flexview on the T42?
