Not to take the steam out of your balloon, but the current model for this laptop has a 40GB HD, for $499 (free shipping) through the Dell's Business Division:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/ ... 2001&s=bsd

Have you used it yet? I had a chance at one of these before for $399 and decided against it because of the lack of key ports in the back. Although, reselling was an option.

Furthermore, like a car the base models don't tend to last as long as the higher end models. This is why the Thinkpads do so well, and even the earliest models can still be found up and running.

P.S.
This might have been posted in the wrong forum. Again, I'm not bashing, just passing information along.

Ouch. You got an Insprion?
Should of gotten an Lattitude. Its a fact that that Insprions are the "neutured" cousins of the Lattiudes, with worse warranty + support + quality...

Did you just win the auction on eBay, or do you have the machine in your hands?

For a brand new machine, $425 is pretty good.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

WHAT!!! INSPIRON is ledgendary dell and IBM are the best in the west.
I am on it right now, the machine is simply amazing, I love it, it's very durable and reliable. all the 2200 I'v seen are $650.00 plus even used on ebay, you must be looking at the 1200.
I love this thing. except.

I can't seem to configure the graphics properly right now the DVD's I play suck [censored]. but I think it's the player, I used windvd on a 600E, and the picthure was better. I currently have power DVD.

Inspiron legendary??? I hate to say this, but most of Dell's machines are average at best. They are good for what they are, inexpensive consumer machines, but they aren't any more than that.

Dell's best stuff is in the Latitude line; those are business machines with better build quality and support.
