How reliable are the Lenovo shipping estimates?
How reliable are the Lenovo shipping estimates?
Hello everyone!
I have been interested in a laptop for some time, and I decided on the Z60M, which I ordered a few days ago, 1/27. This will be my first Thinkpad, but my second IBM. The first being a 486SX back in 1994, which was my first real computer. The z60m will be my first real laptop, the first "not real" one being a Dell that I never used, 5 years ago. This forum has been a great source of information, as a lurker.
I ordered the basic $799 model, which blew me away that I could get it for that amount. I didn't get any special options. When I ordered the laptop, it listed an estimate of around two weeks. The online form showed that it would ship on 1/31, but today it says that I have to call. I had called actually, when I made the order, and the guy on the phone confirmed, that it looked like it would ship two weeks after when I placed the order. I was just wondering if anyone here has enough experience with Lenovo to tell me if this is an accurate estimate, or if I will have to run through months of delays... I wouldn't be able to deal with that.
Thank you all!

my experience and alternatives
Ordered on 1/17/06 and as of today, shows shipping on 2/17/06 - not including shipping times and customs hold if applicable.
Got tired of waiting and found them at euclid computers and macmall. If you order by midnight tonite, I think you can qualify for the 100 rebate on the 799 model (just be sure you can get an invoice dated by 1/31/06).
If you miss the rebate, try euclid first for in-stock models

Ordered Z60m 2529 on 12/19/05. Estimated ship date 1/20/06.
It was in 'packing' since early January.
On 1/21 it was changed to 1/31/06.
And now (2/1) it is estimated 3/9/06.
Hope this helps...
What exact laptop did you purchase, with what features added?
I posted my experience here in the forums. My shipping estimate was very accurate. In fact it arrived two or three days early. However, I did call and ask for split shipment.
Seems like Levono ships via Air Frieght in containers, then splits the shipment in Customs at their US UPS Custom Agency. They have some console that allows them to track with some accuracy where and when the shipment actually clears customs.
But it also depends on how and what you ordered. Express versus custom build or Education models.
I also ordered a docking station and ultrabay enhanced hard drives. These arrived very quickly.

Shipped!
I ordered this laptop on 1/26, almost two weeks ago, late thursday night. Today, 2/8(Wednesday), I recieve word that it has shipped. The email was from earlier in the day. UPS, I dont know how long it will take, I guess 2 - 3 days, maybe more.
So that means that it took them less than 13 days from time of order to the time of shipment. Considering that the laptop did mention quite clearly that there was a two week waiting time, I am very happy with this!
When I ordered the laptop, it originally listed as "packing" with a shipping date of 1/31. I assumed that this was the default estimate. Since before ordering it had mentioned around a two week wait, I called and the man on the phone confirmed a two week wait. Once 1/31 hit, it changed to no date, I believe, and where it said "packing", it now just had the link to call and find out. It may have said "on hold" or something like that. After a day, it resumed saying "packing" with a ship date now of 2/13. Just two days ago, this went up to 2/14. I called again just to be certain, and he did say that I would likely have it shipped by that time, and eventually realized that a shipment had come in "that day" as he said. But, today, an email confirmed that it has shipped, and they list the serial # of my Lenovo too!! My very first thinkpad (and REAL laptop). The UPS tracking # isnt fully there yet, only the initial "1Z" part of it.
I just thought I would let people know, because a lot of people are waiting, or are interested in buying. I can only say that the estimate was more than reliable for me. Of course, I could just be lucky, and have ordered it relatively closely to an overseas shipment. Also, I bought the $799 one, the one with the 1.5GHz Celeron M. 2529FVU I cant wait to dig in, and participate a bit more with this forum.

I placed an order 2529g2u (CTO) 12/19/05 and it is still in packing with estimated ship date of 3/9.
I placed another order for Z60m 2529 express 2/1/06 with est. ship date of 2/15/06. The availability was '10 days' when I ordered it. It got shipped today.
So if you want something right away, just order those express models. CTO models will take much longer.

It is shipped today, 2/14/06, nearly two months from it was ordered. Lenovo seems to speed up a little bit recently. I was thinking about canceling it and now I don't need towateryear wrote:Ordered Z60m 2529 on 12/19/05. Estimated ship date 1/20/06.

When I ordered my laptop here in Canada the service was great and I got my computer within 1 week! (Not sure if they put a rush on it somehow - got it delivered by courrier).
However, since then (August) I've ordered a few parts for myself and others and noticed a complete degradation in efficiency. Shipping dates are meaningless now - in a bad way. For example I'm still waiting for 2 IBM abgII wireless cards ordered 2½ weeks ago. Every time I call to inquire about the order the customer reps keep pushing back the shipping date by a week. I just cancelled an order for a ultrabay HDD adapter this past Monday because I've been waiting for it to ship since January 13 when I placed the order.
I've just about had it with Lenovo.
