"Packing" status orders will NOT ship now....
"Packing" status orders will NOT ship now....
Anyone who ordered an X60 and has status of "packing", forget it!!
It is not going to ship.
I just got this email from IBM/Lenovo websales.
This is almost the same thing that happened with the X41T orders.
How much time does it take to change "within 2 weeks" to "6 weeks" ????
Looks like the salespeople were closer to being accurate after all.

Wow - the phrase "...able to conduct the highest level of quality testing possible. " really strikes me - isn't that something you do BEFORE you put something up for sale?!? I know everyone does this type of thing, but I thought that was an interesting thing to say to a customer...
Thinkpad T420 | Core i-5 2520M | 16gb RAM | 120gb Intel 520 SSD + 750gb 7200 RPM | 6300 N | Ubuntu 12.04 x64

My source said: the whole first batch of CPUs have serious fault....
therefore IBM throw away the whole batch of motherboards (X-series' CPU is fixed on the the board)
they are waiting Intel to provide new Napa CPU, chipests and assemble to the new motherboard...
that's why take it so long...
Ditto - I would read that as "All the ones we've built so far have caught on fire. As soon as we can figure out how hide the fire, we'll ship one to you."wolfman wrote:Wow - the phrase "...able to conduct the highest level of quality testing possible. Nice .... real nice... really this is something I never expected to happen ...
Who's to blame? Intel? Sure... they suplied the bad batch ... but Lenovo ? Well ... they should have tested before they put the product on the market..

IMHO it would be worse if they shipped the units with KNOWN faults like floyyed points out.
I would rather wait a little longer, than get faulty hardware. The lists of errors in the Duo Core cpu is known, and some of the errors are show stoppers for mobile cpus. Wake after standby i think it was, messed something in the memory, allocation?
Looks like i'll wait a bit longer before ordering.

Now: IBM X60s 1704-4JU
Previous: IBM X40 2371-8EU

There are assumptions being made here that there are faults in the CPU itself. Other than the USB 2.0 drain issue, I am not aware of any published error findings. Granted, I am not on the Intel Core Duo design team.
If anyone can provide links showing that the Core Duo designs are being universally held up due to flaws, I would be delighted to read about this.
Right now, I don't think we have anything other than speculation.
With any new CPU, chipset, BIOS there will be many bugs to fix, and I am sure that there is no difference with Core Duo.
Again, I am not aware of any fatal flaws.
As for the letter I received from Lenovo, I took the text: "with all new models that we introduce this is necessary so that we are able to conduct the highest level of quality testing possible" as a generic delay explanation, and not a "confession" of problems with hardware.

OK, but mine says shipping on 2/10/06
I logged on yesterday and it showed 5 x60s (1704 without slice) available, and I was able to order. Now it shows a ship date of Friday.
A few hours later, they were all "gone."
I got a confirm email showing a 2/10/06 ship date.
I understand (and of course believe) all the other reports. anyone think there's any chance I got lucky and a few actually did get out of the factory?
BTW, we have a corp account with Lenovo and these were listed on our "personal pages" shopping section of lenovo.com.

I doubt it, but who knows?
Chances are that you will get a followup email telling you the "real" ship date.

If there was/is a problem with the new CPU/chipset it hasn't seemed to affect Apple. Apple has been shipping the new Intel based iMac for the past few weeks. I think the true problem is Lenovo and their complete inability to ship more than two (so it seems) machines a day. I'm not bitter just completely bewildered after playing the wait game for a X41T and the Z60t.
Re: OK, but mine says shipping on 2/10/06
Sure enough, my "expected ship date 2/10/06" arrived, and guess what? Now order status is magically updated to say "expected ship date 3/17/06" -- exactly five weeks later.aamsel wrote:I doubt it, but who knows?
