No Warranty support in Algeria ( 21 Days No Response )

#1 Post by Jlambert » Tue Feb 21, 2006 7:56 am

Hi

Have T42 2373 CVG Which has developed a fault
Its just 1 Year old and has 3 Years Warranty

For my sins my Company has me working in Algeria
and i need the Laptop for my work
So i Mailed IBM and got a standard reply telling me to contact the Local agent.
I called the number on the Website but its an old number from about 3 years ago so its out of service
called all the Business partners listed in Algeria and their numbers are out of service or not in use
only 1 place answered and said they would not touch it as it was not purchased from them
I mentioned the 3 year Warranty and was actually told that they did not care about the Warranty and put the phone down

So my questions to you learned people is

What can i do or who can i shout at at IBM/Lenovo to get this sorted

Machine purchased in the UK March 2005

Why don't you tell your company to deal with that? Did you try to send another mail at IBM to explain that they have outdated support numbers on their list and you're waiting them to provide a good number? Good luck.

same advice, call ibm uk (or ask smb to do it) or email them!

i was in sri lanka for 2 years and surprisingly my international warranty was not available there! :) called toshiba usa (was bought from there) sent an email to mean service company from lk (i was in cc) and then problem solved.

varries from country o country! ibm romania... better jump off the window while ibm swiss i can only say i'm suprised they dont send you a "thanks for using our services" cake! ;)

First of all is about Lenovo now and not IBM. If your systems is under warranty and you are sure of which part you need, call IBM UK and try to have shipped to someone that can re-ship to you. On the other hand if they need the laptop turned in, once again say that you are in UK and ship it to them. They will not care from where it comes from as long the RMA is valid.

Hi
The Laptop was purchased in the UK in March 2005
I calculate that Warranty is till March 2008
It has now failed completely wont even boot up
Made service request to IBM/Lenovo 4 Days ago
This morning i received an automated Email from the US saying that online service is not Available .
all the responses from IBM/Lenovo have been auto respond Emails
I wonder if any real people work there
My return to the UK is in 5 weeks so it seems i have to wait 5 weeks
before i can even think of returning the Unit
Will be difficult as i arrive late on Monday and leave for Canada early Wednesday without a laptop

How long do these people take to respond to service requests
i would have thought 4 days without a Call or even 1 email unacceptable

I understand your frustration, it has happened to me too to be unable to send an unit for repair because conflicting travel plans.

But, you cannot expect that someone will ever fix it in Algeria, so until you don't stick on the phone long enough to get an RMA and ship it, the situation won't change. At least, they will fix while you're away and then you will figure out how to rejoing with it. There is a possiblity that if you cry loud enough they will let you ship on their account and won't cost you anything.

Better than having sit there taking dust for 5 weeks so everytime you look at it you become even more [censored].

Just my 2c.
T440s OK so far.
T420s NVIDIA graphics. Nice, then MB failure.
T400s Workhorse. two of'em, both faulty display with vertical stripes.
T43 °very nice° - MB reflown and dead, two of'em.
T42 15°, dead onboard wireless.
T40, dead memory slot, stolen from me
T30, stolen from me
TP600 dead

Ship the laptop to someone that you know in UK and they should contact Lenovo/IBM to get it fixed. Then after it is fixed, ship it back to you from UK or ask the person to test it and hold it for you until you get back to UK.

Maybe they should redefine Worldwide Warranty

Sorry Jlambert, life sucks at times and even International Warranty is not different. Seems to me that if you had shipped the machine somewhere in the civil world, you would be a step ahead now, as complaining is not getting you much.
Good luck.
