Anyone had 1 year warrant and wish they had upgraded

#1 Post by Guest » Tue Aug 03, 2004 12:02 am

I was just wondering if anyone here had a 3month or 1 year warranty and wished later on if they had 3 year warranty. I know some companies offer something likes like one year general warranty but lifetime 24/7 support. I wondered if IBM was like that. Not looking for horror stories but more like you may have just wanted to ask one really simple important questions after two years but could not because you were not under warranty. For my last two computers never really understood warranty. One never had to call or never though about it and the other was it was just the general support line.

There must be lots of such people. The question really ought to be, what percentage of people who bought notebooks with 1-year warranties ultimately regretted their decision?

FWIW IBM lets you extend a 1-year warranty at any time before it expires. If after 11 months you've had no incidents then you may decide to gamble.

IBM is probably the best for providing online information, drivers, updates and general support on their website. You can still get that support for models that were made several years ago and for which all other warranties have expired.

My experience with IBM is that they're more than happy to answer basic questions after the warranty has expired. To tell the truth, I can't remember the last time I needed to do so since the answers are all available on the web, either on their website or on forums such as this.

Warranties on refurbished PCs are not upgradeable (the exception being the 3-month warranty on some of them can be upgraded to one year at time of purchase). But the 1-year warranty on refurbished IBM PCs cannot be upgraded through IBM.
