Using Seamonkey at the moment (Mozilla based), and have been using Opera a lot lately. But favorite would be Firefox because of the add-ons.

IE - I like the favorites menu off the start menu, easy to get to, and once they put tabs on I see no reason to change.

Chrome. You should add it to your list of choices. It's so clean and fast and uncluttered it's becoming painful to use anything else.

On real old thinkpads (like a 560) I use older versions of opera. No flash, of course.

Sorry, guys! I knew I forgot something...I always do....
I used to use chrome for a while, but eventually the youtube-crash bug sent me back to FF... That, and the fact that that computer stopped working, too!
XD
I haven't time off from being lazy long enough to re-install it on my new Eee...
I like seamonkey when i use Puppy linux, but it just doesn't give me enough reasons to replace FF.. :|

Use Firefox.

Love the customization and AdBlock!

My Favs in Order

1) Chrome ver. 2.0.172.37
2) Firefox ver. 3.5.1
3) Opera ver. 9.64
4) IE 7 ver. 7.0.2

I've been quite impressed with Chrome lately. It's been very fast, stable and renders nearly all pages quite nicely. For those it doesn't I use Firefox. I Like Opera because they offer Opera Mini which is the fastest and best on my BlackBerry Bold and also syncs bookmarks well. IE is something I only use for some MS downloading etc.

Cheers...

I chose Firefox. Chrome IS faster, but Firefox is plenty fast enough, has more addons/customizations and I prefer the user interface (e.g. the way the autocomplete in the address bar works).

I use many different ones. Practically all of them... IE, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Midori/Safari... I have them all installed at work... can't pick one to stick with for good. On my laptop I have Firefox/Midori though. I can't wait for Firefox to be obsoleted by Webkit.

Not just this forum. If you go to any community of tech-savvy people, you will find most of them use something other than IE.

The people who use IE do it mostly because they don't know, don't care, never bothered to wonder, etc, about the existence of alternatives, because it's the standard shipped with the OS, and in some cases, because they have to use it to view some poorly designed content, that looks broken in other browsers (like I do, for my work).

Here is an example of such a survey from another technology forum I used to visit (survey is old, so some popular options, e.g., Chrome/Safari, are not present):

Code: Select all

	IE 142	14.36 %
 	Netscape 11	1.11 %
 	Mozilla/FireFox	307	31.04 %
 	Netcapter 5	0.51 %
 	Opera 248	25.08 %
 	AvantBrowser	169	17.09 %
 	Other 107	10.82 %

It's all about Chrome!

Has my favorite UI of all browsers and it does a lot of little things that I like. Example: when closing a whole bunch of tabs they stay the same size until you pause for a second. This makes it much easier and quicker to close a set of tabs. Firefox resizes them at every opportunity and so you keep having to move your mouse to be over the X button.

Or just use Ctrl+F4 instead of the mouse. :)

You can always middle-click on the tab without hitting the little X too (though I don't know if it works in Windows). I do this or use the left and right simultaneously in Ubuntu with my Logitech mouse which has no "middle" button.

Chrome has been good for me, but there is still some flakiness (for example, it won't remember some sites' user IDs once I restart it).

Opera ... have tried it but have not figured out the attraction. And with Opera's constant corporate whining to the EU, I really don't have any interest in trying the current version.

I'll give IE8 another shot, though, once I switch to Windows 7.

Besides the fact that neither of you lives in the EU and thus neither of you is (directly) affected, are you aware that "whining" is in fact quite common and happening all the time in the corporate world?
Intel and AMD are basically constantly fighting in courts about something, while simultanously working together in quite a few organisations.
Same goes for many other high tech and software companies.

i used to live in europe, poland for 14 years. i was there recently 1 year ago and I am planning to go back often as my family is still there. so in a way my life will be affected by whatever actions EU takes against MS. But that is really besides the subject. I just don't like companies that tend to go overboard with things. Like Apple with its dictatorship control of what applications you can install on iPhone and Opera's constant whining over MS's IE which can be easily uninstalled and replaced by a third party app... I mean look at blockbuster, those suckers would charge me $5 per day per being late. Now I go with Netflix and so those million of other people and blockbuster is on a verge of bankruptcy. I could go on, but you get the idea.

I'm not surprised that among the sharper computer users in the world (hey, that's us!) that IE is so low on the totem pole. It doesn't seem to be able to browse its way out of a wet paper bag! Some major sites will not even load....And that's on ALL of my computers, not just one.

Please do be be careful in your comments. I use IE exclusively. It causes me ZERO problems - so much so, that I have everything I want and NO need to move to an alternate browser.

If you are happy with what you have, that is fine as well.

Please just point out what you like and not aimlessly denigrate what someone else might like.

OK, sure, in the spirit of constructive discussion.... I do like the way Favorites is relatively easy to manage in IE8. I have redirected Favorites to Documents and the Favorites folder can then be copied over to another machine with ease.

I expect that they'll only be happy if the IE name is encrypted, the description says "This is a crappy browser, please install Opera instead", the logo is changed to random noise, and users will have to answer a 20-question advanced mathematics test before being allowed to install it. Oh yes, and of course every selected IE install should result in a fee of $10 being sent to Opera's numbered Swiss bank account.
