Michael,

I would have to ask for some additional information before I'd want to hazard an opinion on this.

What are the models of the HDs? Are the Seagates much older than the Maxtor and the Seagate on the primary IDE?

What IDE controller do you have on the MB? DMA enabled on all drives?

try jumpering the drives cable select... on newer machines that causes the least amount of problems

There's also an entry in the registry that can enable ultra DMA if your hardware supports it.

might be you were using cable select cables and had the drives jumpered for master and slave rather than CS..
