Is anyone having a slight processor squeal or clicking sound whenever the CPU is in use? If you don't know what i'm saying, place your ear about 6 inches from the keyboard and move your mouse cursor around.... what is that noise?
I think it may be just the nature of CPU's doing their thing, but I can't pin a scientific reason for it. electrical current maybe???
I don't hear this noise in the first half hour of use, but as the x100e warms up in temp, the noise comes back. WTF?

Did you ever found out the cause? I thought the CPU was a solid state device and no moving parts. Could it be the soldering on the board bucking from the AMD heat?raven3 wrote:Is anyone having a slight processor squeal or clicking sound whenever the CPU is in use? I had a problem of squeaking and it was the hard drive. I took the back casing off and tried to locate the source and it seemed like the internal hard drive. I have since replaced it with a 320 GB 7200 RPM Seagate and its whisper quiet. I don't know if that is what's going on with you but it made a world of difference to my machine.

Ive been researching a number of notebooks but all Intel and seems like this is an across the board issue not limited to Thinkpads but certainly not excluding Thinkpads. Sony Vaio, Dell, HP all dating back to Core 2 Duo. Some say its the CPU some says its the motherboard. Who knows. No one wants to buy a machine and have this problem. I would be p ed if that happened. On a competing board there is a long discussion about this relevant to the T410s. I'm talking about CPU whine rather than squeaking. I have never heard it on mine.
