Dimensions of the X100e lid

#1 Post by laughingtonto » Fri Mar 12, 2010 10:33 am

I'm going to be getting an X100e for my daughter and she'd like to customize it with some artwork. Can I impose on one of you X100e owners to take exact measurements of the lid so she can get an early start on the art please?

Many thanks.

I don't have an X100e yet, but I'm sure someone will respond..

..but, I wouldn't have thought it would really matter. If she was doing the artwork in a vector art program, like Adobe Illustrator, all she would need is the aspect ratio, which you could get from a picture on the internet. Even the four points from an angled photograph could be easily tranformed (well, I'm a CAD/3D/graphics geek, so excuse me...).

She wants to create and order it from gelaskins before the computer arrives. Go figure.

I hope to have a measurement later today, if no one else finds it beforehand (although it does sound like you could approximate it using the dimensions of the case and/or an image). I just haven't found a tape measure or ruler yet, though I looked last night. Right now my wife is away, but I think she has one.

One thing to be aware of is that the top is ever so slightly curved (convex).

Here are my measurements. Keep in mind I am not an expert at this, and that the slight curvature may be an issue. I did my best to measure exactly to where the curved corners of the lid began to fall away. I erred on the side of going out to the edge, with the idea that if you want to leave a little margin you can decide that yourself, and/or trim away any slight excess. I also don't know to what extent the printed graphics may stretch.

As near as I can measure, the lid is 11 " on the long edge, and either 7 1/8 " or 7 " on the short edge. There is roughly a 1/8 " difference in the last measurement due to the hinge; if your daughter plans to cut out divots for the hinges, she could go a little wider.

Again, these measurements are as accurate as I can make them with our metal tape measure, but I am not promising anything. I think you should be okay as long as you err on the side of caution, and/or can trim away a slight bit of excess as necessary.
