Using Soft-Rim Trackpoint Caps on the X100e

#1 Post by danieldavid » Sun Feb 20, 2011 7:57 am

Because I find I can use less force with the soft-rim than with the dome form caps, I've installed one (P/N 91P8421) on my X100e.

Soon after I discovered that it left a circular mark in the center of the display. Luckily it was only grease or sweat from my fingers and I was able to clean it. However, I now place a piece of a very thin cloth between the keyboard and display whenever I close the X100e, as I fear that in the long run, it may ruin the LCD's non-reflective coating.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Which one exactly?
One of these:

Or this one:

I have the last one and it does leave a mark but barely visible.

There's usually a light mark on my T400 and X100e after closing the lid. It shouldn't be a major issue, but better safe than sorry.

It's the one with the rim higher than the centre, i.e. concave.

It is similar to the second cap, the one called gewöllbte Form, on the site.
One of these:

But nevertheless, this is the one I find most comfortable, and the most effortless to use.
