x120e won't boot from usb cd drive

#1 Post by ancientscribble » Sat Apr 16, 2011 8:19 am

Hi.

I recently bought x120e, installed linux mint 10 from a usb key, then decided to buy Windows 7 home premium.
Bought an external cd drive, but this machine won't boot from the cd.
Tried pressing f12, and it shows the drive, but it won't do anything.

Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong.
Just wanna install Windows.

Thanks in advance. :D

You did select the USB device after pressing F12?

Yes, I pressed enter to select it.

Um, now the option to select the drive isn't there anymore at the f12 page.

Now I tried changing Network Boot to USB CD: but it still just boots to mint.

Quick question, does the drive try to spin up at all? or the computer just boot into Linux like there is nothing plugged in?

The drive does spin. But the machine acts as though there's no drive. So yes, it does just boot into mint no matter what I try.

Weird. Windows 7 should automatically driver the Conexant adapter.

Tried this?
