Video problem with older Thinkpads

Hi All

I've had a few thinkpads that have randomly started doing this to the video output:



It's not the LCD, because on machines displaying this, I have tried using different, known good LCDs and the problem persists. It alway seems to look the same with these vertical stripes distorting the display...

Any ideas?

Cable degradation gets my vote. My a31p done this out of nowhere.

Hmmmm.... good call. I'll see if I can find another ribbon for this (it was a 345c, so unlikely!)

ive had a few laptops do this, it was always the cable being loose in some way. I’ve got one doing it now actually that I’ve got to go in and reseat. It goes away if I press down on the keyboard near where the cable connects.
