360PE / 730T pen drivers - Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 ???

#1 Post by dwstucke » Wed Jun 10, 2009 9:37 am

I've got a pair of old 360PE's and a 730T that I am trying to get running with their original operating systems. We've been able to get most things working running Windows 3.1 but don't have a copy of Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 to install. Does anyone know of a source where I might obtain a Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 on floppies or as an archive. Also I am wondering if there is a Wacom driver for Win 3.1 that I could install these machines that would let the stylus act as a mouse within applications.

Thanks for any help!

No replies on this??? I'm still looking for some help.

I did find Windows for Pen Computing 1.0 on this site... http://www.abandonzone.co.uk/index.php

But now still lack a pen aware video driver to work on the 360PE.
Perhaps something that someone can share from a working machine?

Also ideally I'd like to find an archive of the Recovery disks that originally shipped with one of these machines.
Any ideas????

I've noticed that the 730T has a file called IBM730T.DRV and that the 360PE doesn't have anything similar. Since the pen works in WIN3.1 on the 730T I'm wondering if the missing system component on the 360PE is something with a name like IBM360PE.DRV ???? A driver for machine specific features of some sort?

Does anyone have a pen working in Windows 3.1 on a 360PE or 360P where they could take look for a file like this?

- discovered today that the 730T also has 2nd machine specific driver named " ibm730t.386 "
- now wondering if there are are two machine specific drivers for the 360PE ? ? ?

Can anyone confirm if other Thinkpads from this time period running windows 3.1 needed machine specific drivers of this sort?

Reviving a 15 year old thread from it's last reply in 2009...

I recently restored a 730TE and have been making notes on an article on my website here. https://ret.rocks/index.php/projects/ibm-thinkpad-730te

I've uploaded a HDD image with an install of Windows For Pen Computing 1.0 (which is essentially 3.11 with some add-ons) for a 4Gb Trascend CF card along with a bunch of other useful bits of software and info.

The 3-disk 'Pen Computing' upgrade widely available on the internet is only for the 360PE/750P and not the 730TE so you have to add the 730TE drivers in manually and edit the windows system.ini file and then you can get it going.

cheers
