CD-ROM in DOCK I (3545) stopped working

The SCSI CD-ROM used to work fine in my DOCK I. But yesterday it started to throw an error at boot - 1047000 221. The message is from SCSI controller telling that it couldn't find a connected device.
The CD-ROM blinks and tries to read at boot, then stops and the error appears.
I managed to make it work once after reseating the cables and jumpers. But only once and not for long. Further reseating didn't help.
The CD unit was NOS when I got it, and I made no manipulations with the machine recently. Was just standing on the desk.
Any Ideas how to cure? Any help is very much appreciated!

Maybe check for and clean any corrosion on all contacts?

Hi,

Try to check the CD-ROM unit on some other, known working, SCSI controller. If you have a terminator on the cable, check it also. Do you see the SCSI controller in the OS after boot?
Anything can stop to work anytime on 30+ years old electric stuff.

That's the second thing I tried after reseating. I have only alcohol on hand, no deoxit unfortunately.

Thanks a lot for the links and for the advise. I have no other equipment to try the drive on. But it now magically works. Yet I feel it's flaky. Can it be the capacitors in the dock?
Still very nice to have this SCSI utility. Will try it out to see what capabilities it has.

EDIT: Tried the SCSI utility. It's a very neat test program It found the controller and the CD-ROM(disk has to be present in the drive), all tests pass OK. It even does a read test. Interestingly it doesn't need any drivers to read the CD. So yeah, for now the drive is back to life.

Thank you for the update. Glad to hear that the drive is "kicking" again. I just hope it will stay alive for o long time now. It is hard to say what caused that temporary malfunction. But it really looks like some contact problem. I am still thinking about making a collection of such utilities and helpful programs and put them somewhere together. But it is hard to find enough time to make a usable web page from that. Something that is easy to navigate in (and web 1.0 / old browser compatible). There is a lot of forgotten ThinkPad stuff spread all over the net.
