Obscure 1996 'Type 7344' IBM Tablet

I came by this, which is some obscure IBM tablet which looked like it accompanied some kind of molding machine:

The back is one huge metal heatsink - probably not for the machine itself but to compensate for the heavy-industry environment it's built for:

On one side is the power button, some status indicators and some other jacks all blanked out:

One the other side, dual PC Card slots and a PS/2 port:

And on the bottom, many ports you'd find on a thinkpad - docking port, serial, parallel, FDD connector, PSU connector - but also manual screws for 12-24v DC direct connection:

It powers on with a 16Mb memory check and then shows this enticing screen:

Then shows a bunch of autorunning programs being loaded:

Then an OS/2 style window with various OS options:

And then it boots into the 'shop' software:

The LCD has vinegared up inside but it's still quite usable. Shame as I suspect there is nothing to be done for that. Although I will attempt to disassemble it to check for corrosive batteries, leaking caps, image the HDD / copy the software off the HDD and make a note of the LCD being used inside.

It's still fully working - it has sound, touchscreen works fine - I'm amazed - I thought it would show nothing or just flicker at me....

I did manage to find a little info on it. Seems to be based on a 560Z motherboard and my one is an upgraded 7344-TV3 (P100MHz, VGA 10.4", Base 8M, HDD 1G/3G).

Nice find, not a model I was aware of previously.

The blanked out ports remind me of base-spec cars in the 1980's and 1990's... all those little blank panel hole covers where you might have had a heated rear window, electric window switches, and so on

I think you found it actually. Totally obscure and totally weird.

I use this Type 7344' IBM Tablet.
Have you got some other 12 inch similar? Your type may 10 inch?
If you don't use it, can I have it for my machines?
