IBM Thinkpad 701CS Question

Hi!

I have a question about the AC Adapter of the Thinkpad 701CS. Ive lost the Original Adapter and wanna ask what the values of the adapter are? I live in Germany, so i cannot use an american adapter; i need the values of a german adapter, so i hope anyone could say me the specifications of the adapter. I wanna buy a new from ebay, but i dont know which i can buy.

If it helps, you can use any AC adapter that works for the 600, 570, 770 series. It has the same kind of connector. You can go up in wattage, but not down for most laptops, as the laptops will only draw the power that they need. For example, you can use a 72watt power supply for a T30 on a T2X/600 series, but you can't do the reverse....well, you can reverse it but it isn't recommended as there won't be sufficient power for laptop and battery at the same time, and can cause power/charging problems. (Many posts on the power/charging issue)

I'm not sure exactly which module it is for memory, but even though the specs say that the 701CS tops out at 36-40mb ram, there is apparently, there is a 64mb module that can be added and work.

I believe that they are EDO sticks, but not sure, as a spare 32mb edo stick that I have is bigger than the slot of my 701CS.

The original adaptor (for US) was P/N 04H6136 FRU P/N 046197. The values are:

Input 100-240V~ 50-60Hz 59-68VA
Output 16V---1.88A
Input current 1.0A

The manual lists replacement part numbers (again US) as 85G6680 and 10H4020

Memory is 70ns, non-parity, low power 3.3V, SO-DIMM

Will not work. The chip is too big for the slot, and may not work even if it was the same size.

The IBM Part Numbers are:
- 4 MB SO-DIMM 3.3v 92G7259

- 32 MB SO-DIMM 3.3v 92G7281

The information I found at IBM indicates the 701C/701CS uses a 35 watt AC adapter (LINK). I've never seen one this small. As mentioned already, you can always go larger but not smaller. A 56 watt (3.36 amp) adapter would certainly suffice. As far as I know, all TP AC adapters are multi-input voltage capable so you only need worry whether the input plug is the type you use in your home/office.

Does anyone know the part number for the 64mb stick?

I can't make it out on mine - I got it from Kahlon and it's got a large sticker on it with KO92821 covering the original info.

You know what, now that you mention it, I think you are right. I just haven't had the time to spend on researching this model. Guess I stick with a 32mb when I can find one, since the only one on eBay right now is $153.

Okay, I'll correct you The 64MB chip works on the standard board, but only because it disables the onboard memory when it's installed. I used mine for months before I upgraded to a 133Mhz board - cuiinc was dumping the boards on eBay for a song after everyone (else) lost interest in the 701. The little guy has it all now - even wifi. The biggest annoyance using it is the way most web pages are designed for XGA displays.

Thanks epbrown for the correction, or refreshing my recollection. I keep mine because it's the slickest thing since sliced bread and to watch the looks on people's faces when I open the lid and the keyboard expands like a pop up book.
