Booting E570 from USB
Booting E570 from USB
I am trying to boot my E570 from an USB rescue file. I have not been able to do it. I have used F12 at startup to bring up the boot order and selected USB and been unsuccessful. Are there any suggestions? I have a DVD drive, Might that be more likely to work? Win 10 is the OS.

What is a USB rescue file?
Never heard of it.

Re: Booting E570 from USB
A USB rescue flash drive will boot the computer to program which will restore the computer to an image which was stored previously on an external device. I uses an external HD to store the image because its size is about a third of the amount of data and programs amount contained on the computer. The USB rescue flash drive is used when the computer cannot be booted. The backup program I use is Macrium Reflect. I make images of the computer drive that I can restore if the computer has a problem. When the computer will boot the restore is handled by Windows. If it will not boot the rescue media is needed to boot. The rescue media is generated by Macrium.

Maybe you can use https://www.hirensbootcd.org/
It's a bootable USB image with Windows 10 PE with various diagnostic and recovery tools, Macrium Reflect 7 included.

Re: Booting E570 from USB
Thanks. The link offers a lot of ways to boot my laptop. I am not sure how it helps me to restore the image of my drive that I have stored on an external HD. The rescue ISO file that Macrium made is supposed to boot but it will not do so. I have never had to do this procedure before. so no experience I believe that once I boot with the Macrium rescue file I would have the choice of which image I want to restore. It is on an external HD so it must show up as option to restore. I would like to have guidance from Macrium but my free version does not allow me to post on their forum. I am considering buying a version of Macrium so I can get their help. One detail is that I did not have the rescue file made before the problem so I had to make it on another computer. I have posted this and I was told that this procedure was valid.

Could you expound on that process? If USB is not working and trying a disc is an option, that seems the next step.

Re: Booting E570 from USB
Burning a disk was my first choice but my working computer refuses to do that task for some reason, so I am trying the USB. Since my last post I found in Help of Macrium the procedure for preparing the USB flash stick. It is a little daunting. It includes using the DOS commands of the computer to format the flash drive. I might try it. It makes me wonder how a disk would work. I can't format it.

If you don't share the details about what's going on it's kind of like feeling around in the dark, which has its place, but not here.
