E540 - replacing TN HD panel with FHD IPS screen
E540 - replacing TN HD panel with FHD IPS screen
Hello,
About a mounth ago I bought a new E540 (i5/4GB/500GB/HD4600). Overall its a good package and I am very pleased with its performance. Except for the screen which is close to awful. Its a HD resolution TN panel. I would very much like to replace it with Full-HD resolution TN of IPS panel. I found a screen that should fit on screencountry.com [link below] and from the looks of it it should fit into my laptop - also has a 30pin connector. One thing I am not sure about is the compatibilty of display cable and display output unit on the motherboard. Yesterday I removed the keyboard and take a look at the display cable connector on the motherboard - its a 30 pin connector. Does anybody know if this setup is already prepared to connect a Full-HD hisplay or are there some thing that need to be considered before doing so. I mean, I dont want to buy a new screen just to find out that its not working properly. Any help would be greatly apriciated.

Welcome to the forum!
If you want an IPS screen you should try to locate one of these:
http://www.panelook.com/B156HAN01.1_AUO ... 19048.html
The biggest problem when swapping the screens around is making sure that the pinout is correct otherwise one is likely to blow the board, LCD or both in the process.
Happy upgrading.

Hey I was wondering how you made out replacing the screen. I also ordered a FHD screen and when I went to put it in last night the FHD has a different frame around the screen than the HD screen. Namely it seems taller and has metal tabs at the top and bottom. Was this a problem for you?

Re: E540 - replacing TN HD panel with FHD IPS screen
Can't see from the picture which screen is bigger, since the silver rim around the upper one makes it look smaller.
But that could well be an optical illusion.
If you have a decent, strong wirecutter, you can remove those eyelets.
Be careful not to "wiggle" them, you may destroy some screen contacts!
All this of course, provided that the lid has enough space to accommodate the eyelet "leftovers".
And that the cables fit, and that the pinout is correct, and that you don't crack the screen, etc.
