My dilemna: X1C vs. T430U
It's simple. The T430U has the NVidia, which while not *that* much faster than the Intel 4000, does help me because I have a few apps that simple won't even start unless an NVidia card is detected. That said, I have a desktop for those apps if I really want to fall back.
However the T430U doesn't have the better screen, or the WWAN, which the X1C does.
Neither seem to allow 16GB out of the box (if at all).
Obviously the X1C is thinner, but it's not like the T430U is not a beautifully thin notebook, perhaps closer to the new Macbook Pro.
Anyone compare these personally yet?

Both are good machines. What is good or best for you is whichever one best fits your need, wants, and budget. These machines are tools for some but toys for most. I'm a big fan of both desktops and laptops as they are separate tools and each have their own uses.

Can you accept the ultra-low 1366x768 14" display resolution of T430u ? It is horrible ... for the price category.

I have no idea, is it worse than the screen on my X201? That's a serious question. I really don't know what these numbers mean without seeing them.Puppy wrote:Can you accept the ultra-low 1366x768 14" display resolution of T430u ? It is horrible ... for the price category.

Re: My dilemna: X1C vs. T430U
Honestly, the screens on BOTH are really sub-par. The X1C is brighter and a little better in color rendition, but the pixel spacing makes it look like a screen door. Maybe look into the T430s. At least you get the beefier processing and GPU as well as a 1600x900 display. The screen is underwhelming too, but at least it doesn't look like a screen door. It does beat the X1C in basically all performance benchmarks, although I guess that's a given since it is like 2x the thickness lol. The only Thinkpad model with a GOOD screen right now is the X230, or at least compared to its current brethren it seems that way. I wish it wasn't the case since I'd like to get a new Thinkpad, but Lenovo is really killing this product line.
Oh, and the chiclet keyboards on the new models sort of suck. They are better than any chiclet boards in other brands, but the traditional boards on older Thinkpads are soooooooo much better.

Have you seen the FHD screens on the W5X0 series? Its actually a very nice display, when configured correctbmwman91 wrote:The only Thinkpad model with a GOOD screen right now is the X230, or at least compared to its current brethren it seems that way. Ontopic: According to this, the Build quality of the T430U is very good: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo/ ... 0u-30.html

Re: My dilemna: X1C vs. T430U
The T430U is pretty appealing in many ways. The screen is still sort of a deal breaker for me, but maybe someone will find an IPS panel that can be retrofitted or something!
I have a W520 with FHD display as my work machine. It is OK...very bright, but the contrast & view angles are not fantastic or anything. The brightness actually irritates my eyes. Complain, complain, complain...I know.

Colors in the X1C and W520 FHD panel both exceed the X220 IPS by far. In my opinion they are both superior to the IPS, especially when considering the resolution.

I think if you asked typical users which had better picture quality, most would say the X230.
