Erratic Trackpoint and mouse buttons behaviour on X1C Gen 2
Erratic Trackpoint and mouse buttons behaviour on X1C Gen 2
Hi All,
Trackpoint and mouse buttons have always been a frustration since I started using my X1C Gen 2 model 20A8 about half a year ago and soon after recent W7x64 reinstall they turned into a real disaster:
- cursor jumping erratically all over the place all of a sudden, and if the active window at such moments is that of a browser closing the latter with all open tabs (Chrome's "open the last visited pages" setting has been a real saver, thanks Google)
- cursor ceasing to move all of a sudden and then resuming in several seconds, as if some driver process is intermittently getting stuck all the time. In some cases it stops moving completely until Standby/Hibernate/Restart.
- when pressing mouse buttons (which are part of the Touchpad in this model) the cursor moves down before the click just enough to be away from the element I'm clicking on, making it seem like some really cruel virus (got corporate McAfee antivirus though, hence unlikely)
What is it??.... Basically it's no longer possible to use Trackpoint and mouse buttons at all.
Gestures, Touchpad and middle mouse button are disabled.
UNAV driver version = 18.0.7.57 (seems to be the latest). Tried installing 18.0.7.34 after reading about similar issues with a T series model gone after installing that version - even if it helped a bit it's still far away from ridding my PC of all 3 symptoms. No conflicts detected with either driver.
Many thanks in anticipation!

My W540 only had the second issue you mentioned several times. Did installing v34 fix it for you?

All the issues I mentioned were still around with v34, perhaps just a bit less frequent as with v57.

Re: Erratic Trackpoint and mouse buttons behaviour on X1C Ge
Hello,
I just purchased a used 20A8 and have installed the latest drivers for Windows 7 Premium 64 Bit. The turned off the trackpad and am exclusively using the Trackpad. The mouse behavior on the Trackpad seems fine.
I have different complaints about the mouse button(s). It's not natural for me to left click as I am hitting more the center area which, when I register the trackpad buttons as a two button mouse, gives too much on the right side.

Thanks for your reply. Which version drivers are yours, 18.0.7.57 or a later one? Mine were 18.0.7.57 (latest) at the time when I created this thread.
Mouse buttons wise, I attributed my issues with them (similar to yours if not the same) to my short fingers, which Lenovo probably figured out is not something very common )) Really wish I had gone for X1C1 (with physical F1-F12 and mouse buttons) instead of my X1C2, even at the cost of lower spec.

Re: Erratic Trackpoint and mouse buttons behaviour on X1C Gen 2
I'm having related, albeit slightly different issues with the Trackpoint / Trackpad on my 2nd Gen X1C.
I've been a huge Trackpoint fan for years, which is one of the factors that had me switch from Mac back to the Thinkpad. However on the 2nd Gen X1, the experience is horrendous (and don't get me started on how bad the "virtual" F-keys are).
My problem is this. When using the Trackpoint, I simply cannot right-click AT ALL. The only region of the trackpad that seems to allow me to right-click is the very bottom right corner. The top area with the pseudo red-button markings on it simply doesn't work. Even left-click is questionable in how often it successfully registers.
Any suggestions on how to get it to function the way it should?
Thanks,
Patrick

I think this is a straightforward thing to solve - on my version of Windows (no idea which) - go to Control Panel, Mouse, then far right tab should say Thinkpad. Make sure "Enable Trackpoint" is set, and look at the "Right Click" region that is shown there, that should let you right click where you are used to clicking. I picked the "larger button size".
