My daughter's x1 freezes randomly while she uses the laptop ,this started happening not long ago. the screen freezes with lines of all colors going across it, the only option is to press the power button to shut it down, but now rebooting only makes the keyboard light up and restart again, light up and restart again, it does that several times and then it shuts down, i press the power button again to start it but it does the same startup loop while showing a black screen without ever going back to the login screen. anyone have any ideas whats going on and how to solve the issue?
thanks

thinkpad carbon x1 screen issues
Re: thinkpad carbon x1 screen issues
Hi Nachumama, a big welcome to Thinkpads forum!
1. What model of X1 are you using?
One of our Thinkpad's Machine No. is 20BS-CTO1WW, which is a X1 Carbon Generation 3 (circa 2015).
Don't worry, just give us as much information as you can; we can figure out the rest!
2. To be quite honest, it sounds like you may need to bring in your X1 laptop in for professional repairs, given the display/bootup problem you've described.

Re: thinkpad carbon x1 screen issues
And this is where things may get messy: Thinkpad repair depot may ask you to sign a waiver that Thinkpad would not be responsible for any data loss that might occur.
This is a "Just in case" type of document.
Please confirm that you did do a recent data backup for your X1 laptop?

Re: thinkpad carbon x1 screen issues
Your problem description sounds like a Gen 2 model 20A7 or 20A8.
Replacing the motherboard is the only fix I know of.
Check your warranty hopefully there is still some time left.
