Thinkpad X1C Gen 3 battery issues

#1 Post by patrickcaff » Tue Jun 11, 2024 4:37 am

Hello,
My 3rd Gen X1C battery has been acting up after switching from Windows to Debian Linux, at first it was reading 90% battery health, then out of nowhere started claiming 30% health, after that jumped back to 88%, back 30% and it will keep doing this after every charge. My battery is almost 5 years old. Is it time to put this battery to the pasture? Or is it perhaps a kernel issue?
Does anyone know of any good battery manufacturers for 3rd party X1C batteries? Should I even bother with a battery replacement or just retire my X1C?

Hey there,

If you don't mind me asking, how do you have your Debian 12 (I'm assuming) install setup? For example, my E14 Gen 2 running Pop!_OS 22.04 (GNOME + Cosmic extension) with encrypted / partition chugs battery while my X1C4 running NixOS 24.05 (KDE 6) with non-encrypted / partition sips battery.
