Battery not fully charging to 100%
Battery not fully charging to 100%
Hi.
I've got a T430-2342CTO with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, and a standard LG 6-cell battery. I've only had the battery for 9 months. The meter says it's 99% and it's been sitting for hours on the charger. Lenovo Power Manager says its at 167 charges and 54.15Wh at full capacity. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?
Thanks,
UMPC2024

Re: Battery not fully charging to 100%
Have you reset the battery? After 167 cycles it's not unusual for the capacity to decline a bit. Lith-Ion batteries deteriorate with time, even more so with hard usage.

Re: Battery not fully charging to 100%
Have you tried running a power gauge reset? You should do that every 30 cycles or so to ensure accuracy of the meter.
A little detail on how Lithium batteries deteriorate... While Li cells do lose capacity over each recharge cycle, Lithium batteries lose permanent full charge capacity over time as well, whether they are in use or not, starting the moment the cells are manufactured. The rate at which they lose this capacity is increased by temperature and charge level. E.G. a fully charged battery stored at 25C will lose about 20% of its full capacity in a year. On the other hand, a battery stored at 40% charge at 25C will lose about 4% in a year... and one stored at 40C at a full charge will lose 35% in a year. I've set charge threshholds in power manager to charge under 40% and stop charging at 70%. I fully charge the battery when I know I'm going to need the full runtime, and I always plug in the computer if there's A/C available. As a result, my original T61p 6 cell battery still holds 75% of its brand new full charge capacity after over 200 cycles and nearly 7 years of use. That averages out to just under 4% loss per year

Re: Battery not fully charging to 100%
No, I have not tried a power gauge reset. Thanks for the recommendation, will do that this weekend. It seems that it was just a small inconvenience after much hard use throughout the week.

Re: Battery not fully charging to 100%
Does it stay "99%, charging" or "99%, no activity" or just "99%" when you hover over it with the mouse?

Re: Battery not fully charging to 100%
It was 99, charging and it just took forever to get back up to 100.

Why is my P1 Gen 7 so much better on battery? Cool, quiet, fast — but not on AC.
