Disabling Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on ThinkPad T460p with coreboot

#1 Post by proximatepour » Mon May 12, 2025 2:40 am

Hello, I’m fairly new here. And I’ve seen some discussions about customizing BIOS settings on ThinkPads, and I’d love to get some guidance.

Here’s my system info: I have a T460p running Linux with coreboot installed. I’ve been trying to disable the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hardware permanently at BIOS level for security and power savings, but I can’t find any options in the BIOS menu or in the coreboot config.

My question is: Is it possible to disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth hardware directly through coreboot’s configuration or by flashing a custom BIOS? If so, what’s the safest way to do it without bricking my laptop? Are there specific settings or patches I should know about?

Thanks in advance!

Why not just physically remove the WiFI card?
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
