Horrible Temperatures on my T430

#1 Post by BotkosWithT430 » Sun May 25, 2025 10:29 am

Hi, there! I was wondering that i need to do the dGPU heatsink and copper tape mod on my T430. Yesterday, i did it, but i got horrible temperatures, when i opened chrome i got 95 celsius fok. Today, I did it again, but nothing. What can i do?
My hardware:
I7-3840QM
16gb ram
iGPU
I bought it on aliexpress.

these models aren’t meant to run the QMs. the people who do and enjoy it use TPFC to run the fan in disengaged mode all the time to cool the thing down, irregardless of whether this wears out the fan faster.

When i had a 45W quad in my T420 i could only keep it cool by disabling turbo boost. at the decreased clocks I actually found it overall slower than with the original i5 2520m and i put that back in the PC.

If your T430 is running hotter with the dGPU heatsink, it could mean that it's broken (usually damaged heatpipes). The other possibility is a botched installation.

I paid 60 dollars on that. Thank for the reply. I will try it without the copper tap mod. Maybe, I bought fake or low quality ones. Thank you.

IMO it's better to get a 35w quad-core like the i7 3612QM and 3632QM. Alternatively, reduce the max clock (or disable turbo boost).
