Internal 4k Blu-Ray drive for T540p
Simple question: is there a compatible, internal 4k Bluray player for the T540p? Mine has maxed out specs, with an i7-4900mq and 16gb of ram, plus the Nvidia chips that come with the "P" designation.

no, there aren't any of them. current UHD Blu-ray drives that are available for now are too big and too tall to fit, you should just get an external optical drive if such a feature is important to you.

Re: Internal 4k Blu-Ray drive for T540p
My research indicates there are several UHD Slim-Blu Ray drives for laptops. They are not burners, which are the bulky big ones meant for tower systems, and as external drives.
Whether they will work with the T540p with the right driver is the question.
The T540p is my spare, and "viewing" laptop. I plan on pairing it with a decent 4K TV through and Ultra dock at some point.

Re: Internal 4k Blu-Ray drive for T540p
assuming those optical drives from your research are the 2.5-inch MicroSATA LG BU40N and the BU50N tray-loaders, you're close. but unfortunately, to 'legally' play UHD Blu-rays, you need something more than a optical drive capable of reading said media. you need a GPU that supports HDMI 2.0a with HDCP 2.2 and a CPU that has Intel's SGX. fact is, your T540p has none of that. it has a Haswell-based CPU and a Kepler-based GPU, which both obviously do not even meet the requirements to play UHD Blu-ray discs (or in other words, support AACS 2.0).

Re: Internal 4k Blu-Ray drive for T540p
My T540p is running an Intel i7 4900MQ with a max display port resolution of 3840x2160. So it can certainly output 4K streaming. Why a UHD Blu-Ray should be so impossible is beyond me.
