24 beeps every time my T580 wakes up from sleep

#1 Post by aag » Fri Sep 25, 2020 4:20 am

Every time my Thinkpad T580 wakes up from "deep sleep", it emits a sequence of 24 beeps of various tonalities. Then, it refuses to boot. All I can do, at this point, is to switch it off completely with a long power-button press, and restart (which then works without issues). However, upon restart Windows says that "something happened" and my PIN code is longer valid. Any suggestions? I made a little 5-sec movie of what happens, see: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iy5gztaog4tlj ... .55.29.mp4

Switch it off instead of putting it to sleep.

Might anybody know what the 24-beep sequence recorded above means?

thank you all for your help which is appreciated. I have disabled the "security chip", after reading somewhere that this might help. And indeed, the problem seems to have gone away (not 100% sure but seems likely). I don't understand the implications of disabling the security chip, but I hope it's some corporate thing that is not needed for a single user :D
