I believe this is a common problem. Lenovo's fix was apparently a bios upgrade which did nothing to help. A search of the forum showed nothing.
So, the usb-c port closest to the back will not consistently stay connected. Charging through that port won't work. Thankfully the other port still works.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks.

Re: T490 USB-C port flaky
It sounds like a hardware issue, as in the USB-C port is physically damaged and may need replacement, but since it's soldered to the system board (and not in a separate circuit board or assembly, replacing it can be tricky.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons
RIP: X220 4291-C91 X61 7676-A24 760XD-U9E

Re: T490 USB-C port flaky
Yes. I agree. It's a refurb so if I was in the country where I purchased it I would swap it out but can't do that from where I am for the winter. Thankfully the second USB-C port works fine. Form the repair videos on youtube the second port seems to be mounted better on the board so hopefully it will be more durable.axur-delmeria wrote: ↑Mon Nov 13, 2023 10:03 amIt sounds like a hardware issue, as in the USB-C port is physically damaged and may need replacement, but since it's soldered to the system board (and not in a separate circuit board or assembly, replacing it can be tricky.

Inspect for debris such as a piece of paper towel or tissue.
Spray electrical contact cleaner into it and let dry out.
(Power off and unplugged first.)
