X230T + Windows 7 + AXE3000H = 0

#1 Post by babblefish » Wed May 14, 2025 12:12 am

Everyone probably knows this already, but I didn't. I just bought a MPE-AXE3000H WiFi card for my Windows 7 X230T machine because I wanted faster internet speeds, but no bueno. Apparently, Windows 7 and the AXE3000H don't get along so there isn't a driver available for it. Guess it's not going into my X61T either.

Anyone have a suggestion for a faster WiFi card than the stock one that will work with Win7?

Intel 8265 is the latest supported by this driver.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the 8265 seems to be the wrong form factor for the X230T (PCIe half MiniCard). Looks like I might be stuck with what it has unless I go to Win10.

Looks like the Intel 7260.HMW will work. Main difference between this and the stock card is this one has a faster 5 GHz speed (867 Mbps vs 300 Mbps) and has built-in BT 4.0.

Not sure the faster 5 GHz is worth the trouble since most coffee shops only provide 2.4 GHZ and my phone's hotspot is only 2.4 GHz. And I believe the stock BT is already 4.0.

Maybe if I go Win10 in the future I can go to a faster card. In the meantime, the current speed isn't horribly slow, and I use BT only for a mouse so I think I'll be OK for now.

This website is really useful for finding out which Windows version each Intel card supports:
