Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
I haven't burned a CD in a year, so I've pretty much forgotten which software I was using to do that, but I think this was it. And that it came bundled with the computer.
Except now, the CD Creator no longer runs, although the Roxio Media Manager is glad to. (No help to me.)
So can anyone confirm for me, this was the CD burner app bundled with the computer, and where or how to find the files to reinstall it? Or fix/update it, whatever is happening?
I need to burn some music in MP3 format to fit it in the car, and Win7 wants to make "music" CDs in WAV format. Or would burning it as an MP3 data disc be the fast fix for that?

Re: Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
I suppose that would depend on which car or radio you have? CDBurnerXP is free and works quite well for this task. I use it myself. Just make sure to uncheck the extra software they try to put on there when installing it. I don't know which software comes with your ThinkPad cause you didn't say which one it is, but I seem to recall Roxio coming on my last ThinkPad with a optical drive.hellosailor wrote:would burning it as an MP3 data disc be the fast fix for that?

Ah, my sig line does say a W530. And we're in the W530 & later section.
I'll check into the freebie app. I've got names for the kind of software that tries to slip in other apps that will screw up the system...Which Adobe and Java both do. But I don't think the mods would like me to use those words in public.(G)
Thanks.

Re: Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
You don't need any special software. If your car player reads MP3s, just burn it as a data disk, with MP3s on it.

In the Roxio software there were two options for mp3. One was to burn the files as a "jukebox" disc, the other as a data disc. I don't know the difference except that the "jukebox" format allowed for more files (tracks) to be burned. Whatever that is, it isn't a plain data disc, is it?

Re: Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
I don't know really. From what I could find, it's possible that Roxio applies its own standard conversion / compression to files when creating a Jukebox disk, which may be higher compression than the originals, so you could fit more of them, but the quality may be lower. I've also read that it automatically creates a playlist file. But this is all unverified, since I haven't used the software myself. A standard data disk should be a safe bet.

Re: Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
In any case, I'd like to restore full function to the software. That appears to mean reinstalling it since there are no upgrades or patches that I can find. Except, there's also no "Roxio" file in the SWTOOLS directory, which is where all the preload stuff is supposed to be backed up. Isn't it?
Roxio doesn't show this version existing at all, which confirms it is a Lenono OEM distribution. But Lenono makes no reference to Roxio in any download section, and the Lenono forum itself, just seems to confirm that no one can find the original distribution on their system.

Re: Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
Perhaps it is a matter of searching the Lenovo software, instead of Lenono software?
Have you tried this?

Re: Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
You've confirmed why I call them LeNoNo.
I searched for W530 with Win7 OS, and got no hits on "Roxio" in any manner. Searched several ways, several times.
The page you found happens to say:
FROM THE README FILE:
Roxio Creator Small Business Edition
for Microsoft Windows XP and Vista [note, wrong OS]
Version HD63XZ00LMB (10.3) Full Install
...
Supported systems
=================
This software applies to the following Lenovo systems:
- ThinkPad SL300,SL400,SL500,L410
- ThinkCentre A62
[note, wrong systems]
FROM THE DOWNLOAD MASTER PAGE:
This Roxio Creator Business Edition applies to the following Lenovo systems:
•ThinkPad R400, R500
•ThinkPad T400, T500
•ThinkPad W500, W700
•ThinkPad X200, X300, X301
•ThinkCentre M57p
•ThinkCentre M58, M58e, M58p
This Roxio Creator Small Business Edition applies to the following Lenovo systems:
•ThinkPad SL300, SL400, SL500, L410
•ThinkCentre A62
As you'll notice, there's no mention of this supporting the W530. The W500 is not the same machine and they refer to the "Business Edition" not the "Small Business Edition" that I have.
So...I may try to install the SBE that says it is not for my machine, since it might be the correct edition. But there's still no LeNoWhatever reference to this machine (W530) with this OS (Win7/64) with the Small Business Edition that shipped with it.
When I ordered my laptop, they finally said "Gee, we didn't ship it on time because, uh, there's some part shortage that we have no idea when it would be filled...wait a few weeks and call back." Two days later I called to cancel it in favor of a similar machine in stock elsewhere, and they said "Oh, but we SHIPPED IT already." Ahuh. Indefinite shortage, solved in 24 hours, don't bother to tell the customer.
"Hey Rocky, wanna see me pull a rabbit out of my hat?"
"Uh, Bullwinkle..."

I would try. What's the worst that can happen? It's a freaking CD/DVD burning software. What possible "special support" for a specific machine can there be required?hellosailor wrote:So...I may try to install the SBE that says it is not for my machine, since it might be the correct edition.

Wouldn't it just be easier to say so people trying to help you aren't left to guess?hellosailor wrote:Ah, my sig line does say a W530. And we're in the W530 & later section.
According to the tabook, the W530 comes with Corel Burn Now Lenovo Edition. I'd still vote for CDBurnerXP as it's not bloated like the Corel software is. It used to be you had to have the software installed on your machine and the Lenovo downloads were just updates, but I don't know if that's still true.

Re: Roxio Creator Small Business Edition?
Latitude, it is easier to say so, and to make sure that I have said so, I put it in the sig line. If people trying to help me can't or don't read the entire post they're replying to, they can always ASK. If that's too much effort, pass on it. I fully admit that there have been times I haven't really read what I've read in a thread, and when that happens I either ask, get corrected, or move on one way or the other.
It runs out Roxio was hidden in this W530 computer, under "C:\SWTOOLS\Apps\hd63xz00lmc-a" with no hint that a Roxio product was there. Corel DVD Movie Factory and Corel WinDVD player and Corel BurnNow is also installed from the factory load, but I'd never even looked for them. Never needed to.
I stopped using Corel products a long time ago (after some years of being one of their early and loud fans, when they were beating Adobe at their own game) when they decided not to release some critical bug fixes in Draw, instead telling the paid customers to go buy the new version if they wanted corrections. Buy a new product to get a critical bug fix?? Nope. That puts them on the list of companies that can do without my patronage. (And I've guided enough corporate purchases so that it isn't just one piece they're not going to sell.)
We'll see if a reinstall of the "C:\SWTOOLS\Apps\hd63xz00lmc-a" (shh! don't call it Roxio!) app does the trick.
[LATER]
Installed from the swtools version, no sign of the apps. Installed from the download version, still no sign of any apps besides the stax.exe labeler. Even after a successful install message, and a reboot.
Curiouser and curiouser, to quote Alice.

I believe there's two ThinkPads in your signature. It seems prudent to give as much information as possible. Sometimes people forget or don't consider it, but I don't think it's realistic exception for members to ready everything in your post(including signature) before commenting since you're the one asking for help. I was only pointing out the need for clarification. There was no animosity, so there's no need for the snarky tone. Good luck with you ThinkPads.hellosailor wrote:I put it in the sig line.
