what do these buttons do
what do these buttons do
I have a ThinkPad w530 and don't know what two of the buttons do on the top left of the keyboard, above F3 and F4. There's the mute button, then the volume button, then there's some other button with an orange light and then a button that is just a line. What do they do? This is probably a really stupid question but I Just don't know what they do. Any help would be great!

Re: what do these buttons do
I have found that the W530 boots so fast, that I can't get the machine to go into BIOS setup by pressing F1.
The "bar button" or Lenovo Vantage which Used to be Blue and say ThinkVantage on it (a pox on all bean counters!) should get you a menu where you can go into the BIOS at power on boot. Otherwise, I just let it boot to winblows and then re-start it. Then the system allows me to press F1 for the BIOS setup.

The problem is W10, which does not fully power down when you switch off, it just goes into a trance or sleep.
You need to fully shut down W10, before you 'cold' reboot and can press F1 for BIOS access.

It's a thing that started from Win8. People frequently attribute Win8 features to Win10, and Vista features to Win7, simply because of the relative popularity differences. Anyways, that was off-topic.RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Sat May 23, 2020 12:44 amThe problem is W10, which does not fully power down when you switch off, it just goes into a trance or sleep.

Restart always includes a full shutdown. Power-off hibernates instead (unless "fast startup" is disabled). The way Thinkpad interact with the startup sequence of modern Windows will indeed not let you get into the BIOS when resuming from hibernation, but if you have a boot password or ATA password set, there is a workaround. The laptop will prompt you for the password when turning on from hibernation. Turn it laptop off at the prompt, and turn it back on again, and this time, it will present you with the BIOS option.

Hold the phone.
If I right click on the windows trapeziod and select shut down, it doesn't power off? I need to find and disable that fast startup. When I want my machines off, I want them OFF.
