How to reassign the "black button"?

#1 Post by wrybread » Thu Jan 28, 2021 7:58 pm

By black button I mean the rectangular button next to the mic mute button:

On my T530 in Win7 I could reassign it to run any executable with the registry key here:

viewtopic.php?f=45&t=121640&p=785100#p785049

Very useful for blanking my monitor on demand. But that doesn't work on my "new" W530. I don't know if that's because I'm running Win10, or because it's a W530 or some other reason.

Any tips?

Hi, Have a look at the integration driver for Win10, requires Power Management Driver and Bios Update Utility to be installed. There are problems with hotkeys starting form win8 and certainly with Win10. As far as i can see once installed this adds a tab to your keyboard settings to re-map/re-assign functions to hotkeys. Discussed before here and here
-Hotkey Features Integration (Version 9) for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad check this
not guaranteed to work mind you.

Well shoot, I installed the Power Manager Driver:

https://www.drivers-lenovo.com/lenovo-t ... nt-driver/

the Hotkey Features Integration:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/prod ... 0Utilities

and the Bios Update Utility, though I'm not sure if it's the right one. Oddly the link now says "Access Denied" but it was working earlier:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downlo ... wist-s230u

I still don't have any extra tab for the hotkeys in Control Panel -> Keyboard. Hmm.

I also tried this Python script:

No joy though, it errors out with "IOError: DeviceIoControl() failed!"
