Lenovo Thinkpad L540 - size of Keyboard frame?

#1 Post by Insomniac1971 » Mon Sep 09, 2024 6:22 pm

Here come a strange question, all because a seller from chinese 3rd party factory, had me wonder if he were telling the truth when he cancelled my order for 04y2348 L540 US keyboard.

He claimed it would not fit in my L540(type 20aua0f4jp, serial R902K1R2) because mine originally came with 04y2379 L540 JP Japanese keyboard, and he claimed that the keyboard frames are different size.

I don't know if I should believe him, Lenovo has done crazy things in the past!

Can anyone here confirm this claim, before I order a US keyboard from other source - or is it like I suspect, totally nonsense?

Thank you in advance

Jan
According to l540_fru_bom_20140807.pdf keyboard section they should be interchangeable

These are knockoff keyboards with poor tolerances. Had a similar issue with a client's T440p-- ordered from a nearby laptop repair shop, first keyboard that arrived didn't fit, and so did the second. It was infuriating since it took at least a month for each order to arrive.

After the second, I just asked for a refund (which took another month to push through), and ordered from a local seller in Lazada. The keyboard that arrived fit, but unfortunately the keys weren't as crisp as the original keyboard.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

No idea if they are different, never heard of that.
Anyway, you are looking at a (knock-off?) Chicony keyboard with that 04Y2348.
Why not look for a 04Y2426 which is the better LiteOn version of that US keyboard?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

I always thought Chicony were the better choice, is LiteOn better? Back in the day when we did support for IBM and later Lenovo, Chicony had a better track record than other brands, at that time I had not heard of LiteOn yet.

LiteOn replaced NMB I believe in keyboard supply. I have some suspicion they are the same company but no proof yet.

Chicony is fine too, the folks here ding on them, my personal anecdote is they seem to fail in stupid ways more often, but as far as typing feel goes that’s a subjective matter.
