Lite versions of W10 and W11

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Wed May 31, 2023 3:26 am

I came across some possibly very interesting stuff:
What is Tiny10 and then I found:
Lite versions of W10:
- Tiny10 by NTDEV
- Micro Win 10 by Dark Reverser

There also are Lite versions of W11:
- Tiny11 by NTDEV
- Windows 11 Pro Lite by SasNet.

(I'm not connected in any way to the above).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Those "Lite" versions are based off LTSC, and they all "activate" in interesting ways. I would feel more comfortable using Windows 10 Pro, which Microsoft still gives us for "free" (so they can make $$$ selling ads to us) and nuking the update service.

I'll have a go at that Micro Win 10 next week, when I get the WD SN500 for my T480.
Just to try it out as a spare (in case my W7 ever decides to conk out).
Linux is already sitting here waiting...

Look, its easy, personal machines have to run linux, work machines provided by your employer mainly will run Windows, go for W10, ask admin password to remove as much crap and telemetry as possible and move on. Do not do personal computing on the corporate machine. Enjoy life and drink a beer, salud, santé, skol!

Well, I got Micro Win 10 installed on the WWAN-drive of my T480.
It is a severely slimmed-down version of W10 LTSC 2019 x64.
Using this MAS, it is now activated until 2038.

Only extra thing I did was totally removing that pesky Lady of the House: Cortana.
How to uninstall Cortana completely:
1. Click on the start button or press the Windows key and type Powershell.
2. Right-click on Windows Power shell and click "run as administrator"
3. Once it runs, type (or copy/paste): Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.549981C3F5F10 | Remove-AppxPackage
4. Press enter.
I'll have to check it out now for a few more days, to see what all the included 'options' are for
But so far everything is working OOTB.
